Call for Applications: Canada Gets Active!

Interested in being one of 5 communities in Canada to provide Grade 5 students with a Community Physical Activity Pass that will provide FREE access to designated recreation and facilities? Learn more about the Canadian Parks and Recreation Association’s (CPRA’s) Canada Gets Active Pilot Project that will be taking place in 2009/2010!

CPRA is working on a new project titled Canada Gets Active. Modeled after Kingston Gets Active (KGA), and in conjunction with the initiative, the main objective of Canada Gets Active is to increase Physical Activity involvement of Canadian children by increasing their access to and participation in community recreation facilities. Don’t let this opportunity pass you by! Read below to see if your community qualifies to apply to pilot this project!

Required Tasks

1) Commit to undertake an 8-month pilot project and participate in related research and evaluation activities (for example: surveys, focus groups, tracking of pass use, etc.) commencing August 2009/September 2009
2) Submit a work plan of proposed activities and outcomes, outlining how they will be achieved and measured
3) Submit a proposed budget that reflects the work plan and proposed activities
4) Establish partnerships with key organizations/sectors in the community to achieve pilot project outcomes – namely local school board(s), recreation facility providers, and public health. A minimum of two Letters of Support are required – one from a school/school board and one from a recreation facility.
5) Identify and commit a project lead (staff or volunteer). This individual or an association representative, will be required to participate in an orientation session in Ottawa in late August/early September 2009 and be the ongoing liaison with CPRA
6) Demonstrate financial and in-kind resource contribution to the project
7) Propose a plan/strategy for maintaining capacity to engage and support students, members of the school board(s), members of the recreation field, public health, etc. involved in the project
