Presidents’ Reception
Tuesday, October 17 (7:00 pm - 10:00 pm)
By invitation only. This event is an opportunity for CPRA, S.P.R.A. and the City of Saskatoon to host a reception and sincerely express their appreciation to the host city Saskatoon, those who are currently members of either organization’s Board of Directors, Past Presidents of the Associations, Chairs of Committees, conference volunteers, private sector members and VIPs.

For students and delegates that will be in Saskatoon on Tuesday, Joe Dogs (Patricial Hotel) will provide the backdrop to encourage you to mix and mingle amongst parks and recreation professionals, emerging leaders and students. Students attending this event will meet key industry leaders and representatives in a social atmosphere, offering you your first opportunity to build your professional network. For you “seasoned” parks and recreation professionals, it is a great opportunity for you to meet up with your colleagues and future parks and recreation employees.
Opening Ceremonies and Keynote Address
Wednesday, October 18 (5:45 pm - 7:45 pm)
The official opening of the 2006 National Parks and Recreation Conference and Trade Show will amaze you! Saskatoon is celebrating its 100th Birthday and you are invited to come to the party. We will be celebrating in style ~ with the one guest that everyone wants at their party… Brent Butt! Brent, from CTV’s award-winning show, Corner Gas, will be on stage as our 2006 Opening Keynote. He will be sure to have you on the edge of your seat and maybe even rolling in the aisles. He will also grab your attention and inspire you to take in the rest of the conference with zest. What better way to kick off Saskatoon’s birthday celebration and the annual conference!
* Be sure to have dinner before the Opening Ceremonies start. Hors d’oeuvres will be provided during the Trade Show Social.
Trade Show Social
Wednesday, October 18 (7:45 pm - 11:00 pm)
Saskatoon’s 100th Birthday Party will continue as we proceed immediately from the Opening Ceremonies to the Trade Show. Just like any great party, there will be fabulous hors d’oeuvres, beverages, games and party favors! And what would a birthday party be without presents? Receive the gift of knowledge and experience, and much more, as you tour through the exhibitor’s booths. The Trade Show Social is sure to delight everyone and continue to set the tone for a week of making connections, fun and learning.
ODEON EVENT: One of a Kind Dramatic Experience
Thursday, October 19 (6:00 pm)
Do you want it HOT, HOT, HOT or Cool, Contemporary and Chic? Well, there is no need to choose – the S.P.R.A/City of Saskatoon social will provide both at the Odeon Event Centre. We will show you that Saskatoon has come a long way over the past 100 years. From Saturday night barn dances, we have progressed to Chic sophisticated entertainment; so come celebrate Saskatoon’s 100th Birthday in style. Enjoy exceptional Jazz music and delectable food and beverages. Don’t miss the opportunity to mingle with new and old friends in one of Saskatoon’s ?nest entertainment facilities! As the music of the “Hot Tamales” hit the stage...anything can happen. Find out how poker, martini glasses, chocolate and fruit go together. This is one evening that you will talk about for the next 100 years!

CPRA and S.P.R.A. proudly celebrate the outstanding contributions of practitioners and volunteers from within Saskatchewan and across the country who continue to advance the work of parks and recreation. This is our way of recognizing their work and commitment that benefit the lives of Canadians and their communities. Share the moment and learn what they have done!
CPRA Annual General Meeting
Friday, October 20 (3:45 pm – 5:30 pm)
Come learn more about your national Association and meet the CPRA Board of Directors (2005/06 and 2006/07) and staff at the CPRA Annual General Meeting. Come share your thoughts and ideas on Association activities and take part in setting the future direction of CPRA. Be part of this exciting grassroots network and connect with people who impact the lives of all Canadians by building healthy and active communities.
Get a taste of 2007: Ottawa Senators Social!

Hosted by the City of Ottawa and Parks and Recreation Ontario, this event will celebrate hockey in Canada and give you a slapshot... oops, snapshot of the excitement building for the 2007 National Parks and Recreation Conference and Trade Show in Ottawa. Come wearing your favourite hockey team jersey and receive a special prize! We invite all delegates out for an evening of fun, friendship, and of course, lots of prizes. Learn about Ottawa and the mighty Senators Hockey team! Enjoy a great evening with us making new contacts and sharing your experiences from the day! And remember, keep your stick on the ice!
Closing Ceremonies and Keynote Address Brunch
Saturday, October 21 (10:30 am - 12:45 pm)
Catriona Le May Doan is a talented motivational speaker who will engage and explore methods of achieving personal excellence while challenging us to achieve our full potential. We will close the 2006 Conference with as much enthusiasm as we started with. The event will officially close with a celebration as we pass on the honour to the 2007 National Parks and Recreation Conference and Trade Show hosts, Ottawa!
S.P.R.A. Annual General Meeting
Saturday, October 21 (2:00 pm)
S.P.R.A. Members are reminded to join the S.P.R.A. Board of Directors for the 2006 S.P.R.A. Annual General Meeting (AGM). The Association’s Annual Report will be presented, the Auditor for 2006-07 appointed, Resolutions and other business discussed, and the results of the 2006 Board of Directors election announced. Your attendance provides you with the opportunity to have input into the direction and actions of the Association and is an integral component of our success.
