Why Should You "Connect in the Capital"?
Canada’s National Parks and Recreation Conference and Trade Show is
an event that provides educational opportunities through program
sessions and meetings, various networking opportunities and exceptional
keynote speakers, that in the end, gains you both personal and
professional development. It is structured to provide exceptional value
that minimizes your days away from the office and fits within your
training budget.
The program theme for this year’s conference, “Connecting in the
Capital”, places emphasis on the National Conference being held in our
Nation’s Capital, Ottawa. Delegates will be able to “capitalize” on the
opportunity to discover new initiatives, programs and services from
across the country, exchange ideas with national experts in our sector,
and create a coast-to-coast-to-coast network of colleagues. The
conference and trade show will help us 'Connect in the Capital' on a

Testimonials
After attending the Canadian Parks and Recreation
conference, the NWT Recreation and Parks Association came home with a list
of exciting "new ideas" and we have already found the funding to implement
two of them! After attending my first conference, I was provided with useful
national contacts and resources, most notably the best practices of our
provincial and territorial partners that keep us from "re-inventing the
wheel". The field of parks and recreation is full of familiar and refreshing
faces but also gives delegates a wonderful opportunity to build new
networks. I'm certainly looking forward to the next conference!
Wendy Lahey on behalf of the
North West Territories Recreation and Parks Association
The annual CPRA conference is worth attending for its
educational component which provides great learning opportunities for
various sectors who are involved in the recreation movement in Canada. In
addition, the excellent keynote speakers not only motivate delegates, but
provide them with thoughtful insights into creating a better society, and
enhancing the quality of life in our communities. The networking
opportunities and the social aspect of the evening program including the
entertainment complete the full package that makes for an exciting four
days! Coming from a small rural community (as I do) does not preclude that
there will be several aspects of the symposium that will be applicable to
your real life situation, and which will be beneficial to all those in
attendance.

The CPRA conference and tradeshow is a great opportunity
for organizations like CAAWS to reach a diverse audience, from the staff
working directly in communities to people making the decisions at the
municipal and provincial level. Through displays and educational workshops
we are able to provide practical information, hear new ideas and network
with people from across Canada interested in creating more opportunities for
girls and women to participate and lead in sport, physical activity and
recreation.

Executive Director
Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport and Physical
Activity (CAAWS)
The 2006 Canadian Parks and Recreation Association's
Conference in Saskatoon was my 4th conference and each conference has
provided fantastic opportunities to learn and discuss the many exciting and
innovative projects in our field from across this great country. Saskatoon
allowed me to forge new relationships and renew old ones. Between motivating
and knowledgeable speakers and keynotes and the many social events, there is
a great mix of learning and networking, making the conference both
stimulating and enjoyable. The time spent at these conferences has proved to
be invaluable in my daily life both working and personal. Ottawa in 2007 was
put on my calendar the minute I returned from Saskatoon.
