Program Stream Information
Presentations for Canada’s National Parks and Recreation Conference will focus on meeting the outcomes of eight main program streams. These streams address current trends and topics that affect our sector. Below is an overview of each of the program streams.
Infrastructure
Renewal/rehabilitation; development; expansion; partnerships; innovative funding; energy efficiency; collaborative design; trends in design; and, maximum use of facilities.
Volunteerism
Risk management; tools; recruitment; retention; community development; motivation; current trends; future of volunteers; philanthropy; youth volunteering; staff volunteer relationships; volunteers in emergency; and, disaster planning.
Professional Development
Motivation; communication; coaching/mentoring; networking; cultivating leadership; new competencies; recruitment/retention; the ‘net generation’; and, succession planning.
Inclusion and Access
Program development; municipal policy; pricing policy; celebrating diversity; who is often excluded?; universal design; innovative program ideas; inclusion policy; therapeutic recreation; and, leisure education.
Adolescent Youth Development
Role modeling; personal development; leadership; youth councils; ideas for youth involvement; intentional outcomes for youth program; rural youth; conflict resolution; hard to reach youth; programs for young women; transition programs for tweens; intergenerational approaches; multi-sectoral youth initiatives; and, keysto motivating youth.
Parks, Open Space and Environment
Climate change; trail development; eco-tourism; partnerships; beautification; health/air quality; waterfront access; sustainable development; green technology; and, trends.
Physical Activity, Sport and Recreation
Sport for life (Long-Term Athlete Development model); community development; healthy people – healthy communities; social inclusion; 2010legacies; wellness; and, trends.
National Initiatives
Advocating for our sector; accessibility; knowledge sharing; coalition building; Canadian Vision for Parks and Recreation; strategies to influence the health agenda; support to the voluntary sector; and, environmental stewardship.
Youth Development through Recreation Services
As a special addition to this year's National Conference, participants who attend at least four of the seven sessions in the Youth Development stream, will receive a Youth Development Certificate of Participation. The Youth Development stream offers delegates abalance between innovative program ideas and professional development. The certificate is designed to help promote and recognize the importance of those who work or volunteer with adolescent youth in Canada.
Let’s promote our programs! If you are planning to register for four or more sessions in the Youth stream, please bring along some Swag. Swag are promotional items from your program or City such as mugs, t-shirts, ball hats, backpacks. We will use them to create great door prizes for the Youth sessions!
