Leisure as a driver for the development of communities
The five-day Congress will essentially deal with leisure as a driver for the development and integration of communities throughout the world. How do the various communities, regions and countries convert leisure into social, cultural, economic and environmental development? Also, how are individuals, society, governments, industry and associations involved in the development of leisure (social, cultural, outdoor recreation, tourism, sports, science or other)? And what can be learned from all this practical experience?
Three sub-themes will be discussed:
- Leisure: plurality, identity, solidarity: how to factor in plurality and diversity while preserving identity and solidarity?
- Leisure: public and private spaces: in the broad sense of its meaning, does leisure become a leaven for individualism or the creator of social and community ties?
- Leisure: prevention, health and quality of life: how and under what conditions will communities benefit from the strengths of leisure with respect to prevention, health and quality of life?
The first four days of the Congress will begin with a conference, at which several world leaders in leisure will participate. In the morning, the conferences will be followed by a panel, while the afternoon will be engaged in thematic sessions, workshops, individual presentations, discussions, etc. Several social and protocolar activities are also planned, as well as a commercial fair (see program details in the Congress web site: www.loisirquebec2008.com)
As active member of the World Leisure Organisation since the year 2000, the Quebec Leisure Council is proud to host the 10th edition of the World Leisure Congress. It is determined to make this congress a wonderful place for sharing expertise from all continents. It wants to mobilise the Quebec and Canadian leisure communities and contribute to its development through this opening to the world. By presenting the success and initiatives they have achieved in leisure, Quebec and the French community will be better positioned in the world of international leisure. In this exercise, the council is assisted by several Quebec, Canadian and international organisations in the field of leisure, including the CPLA and the Quebec educational institutions who offer training in the field of leisure.
