Disaster Preparedness and Recovery for Municipal Recreation

Recreation and leisure are extremely important to the recovery of individuals who have been through any kind of trauma including those related to human-initiated and/or natural disasters. In this free webinar, Registered Clinical and Sport Psychologist, Dr. Caelin White, will discuss the changes that occur in the brain as a result of experiencing trauma and the role of recreation, and specifically exercise, in the recovery of people who have experienced trauma as a result of living through a disaster. Judi Frank has over twenty years of disaster response experience, both as staff and volunteer with the Canadian Red Cross, as well as a varied career in municipal parks and recreation. She will share her understanding of the crucial role recreation and leisure play in disaster events and the need of communities to consider both as part of their municipal emergency preparedness plan.
